I have an affinity for the poetry of Robert Frost. It strikes a chord with me personally and Frosts’ words have become a metaphor for my life.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”
― Robert Frost
My father played such an instrumental role for my path. He wanted me to understand my core beliefs and to forge through the good and the tough times and not waiver. He wanted me to have my own choices and walk my own path. We all start with a chance to make a difference and we all make a choice to make a difference or not. Unless we dig deep and look for the passion & energy we each have to give each other, we may have made the choice by default and not even known it.
I have always had a strong sense of drive to challenge myself- professionally and personally. If it is a path less traveled, it’s the path I want to conquer.
Whether it is the brutal mind numbing, soul building core workouts, the many half marathon’s and the occasional full marathon, the tattoo’s I have that bring meaning to my life and soul or the big dream of building a platform for others to choose a path less traveled and fulfill their dreams- these are my passions.
In 1995 I gave my President of Revlon a hug on the 49th floor of the GM building in NYC and resigned as I chose a path less traveled. I flew back to Indy to give birth to Protis, an executive search firm that has grown into one of the premier executive talent agencies in the world. The company motto is “Building Companies and Changing Lives” because we do both and we do both well. I say not with arrogance but with pride as the coolest feeling in the world is your client saying thank you for their success because of the talent we deliver or a candidate saying thank you because we helped them achieve the next step of their dream.
I have been blessed with incredible mentors along the way that allowed me some nice accomplishments from my time at both E & J Gallo and Revlon North America. The accomplishment I am most proud of however, is the talent acquisition and development within Revlon. It gave me a taste for what was lacking in the executive search industry and a dream of something bigger. Always Dream Big!
I bring 30 years of FMCG experience. My mission was and remains today to build the premier search firm in the world; not necessarily the biggest, but the best. Since inception, Protis has consistently ranked in the top 15 among more than 1100 networked offices globally- including Protis’ International Office of the Year. Protis has been listed in Inc. Magazine as one of the Fastest 500 Growing Companies in the nation and by Indianapolis Business Journal as one of the 25 Fastest Growing Companies in the State of Indiana.
In 2011, we took another path solidifying my commitment to making Protis a global organization with the expansion of Protis to Miami, Florida. The global recruitment division at Protis will have emphasis working with Food & Beverage professionals in South Africa, Latin America, Central America, EU and Asia.
“The world is rapidly becoming a smaller place. My belief is we are all just people and must remove the borders and work together.” This is a road less traveled today but one I suspect will get crowded quickly.
I received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1985 from Ball State University. My wife Laura and I, live in Miami. We share two very special children, Skye 30 and Lars 26, and a spoiled chocolate Labrador, Crosby.
My personal interests are my family, sports, running, cycling and the tunnel of pain. My next challenge is the Miami Marathon. I also love music that includes Rock, Reggae, R&B & selected Alternative.
